Went there for the midnight sun. Spent 3 weeks working our way up from Bergen in a 110 double cab. Middle of summer and still snow above the arctic circle. We had a great time. Was in Finland last winter and saw the Aurora. But I have seen it a few times before from Northern Scotland. Thumbs Up Previously..

Go the whole hog and head up to the island of Svalbard. Well worth it!

Northern lights and polar bears are an awesome combination! '08 Audi S6 Avant 5.2 V10 with Milltek non-resonated. Vrrrrrrmmmmmph

We spent Christmas in the ICEHOTEL and Kiruna, northern Sweden. Minus 37 at some point. Unfortunately low Aurora activity and full moon made it extremely vague. So technically we did see it but I am definitely going to try again to see the full monty in some years. Maybe if we do get to Canada to live for a few years (as is one of our many plans) we can plan a trip further North based on the forecasts instead of being limited to annual vacation.

You can use below website for planning a trip if you like.

Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

That site also has a European forecast map as well: http://www.gi.alaska.edu/AuroraForecast/Europe/2013/04/08

If the aurora is strong enough it can be seen quite far South in the UK, you just need a good view to the North, in an area with no towns so it's nice & dark (no light pollution) and look for a green glow on the horizon.

Here's a few from 2011 taken from my front garden, the best colours I've ever seen, the whole sky was red at one point. Mr. Green
