Chassis rust

Whilst doing a service on my 4.2 S/C, I noticed quite significant rust on the chassis, in particular at welded joints.

As a result I am planning a day underneath with a wire brush, rust inhibitor and chassis black to make some attempt to arrest the process.

Has anyone noticed similar problems and is there a track record of corrosion and rot on RRs of this age?

I think most will have surface rust. As long as it has not eaten through anything your plan is what I would do. Thumbs Up Previously..

I have some very light rusting which I cover with waxoil after the winter.

Have a look behind the rear wheel arch plastic liners. '88 RR Classic, '90 Classic, '93 Classic, '02 Discovery TD5, '55 Discovery 3, '01 P38 4.6, '06 L322 Vogue TD6, 2012 L322 Vogue TDV8, 2017 L405 Autobiography

Roger,

Thanks for the tip. I will take a look. The worst I have otter so far is at the welded joints that are concealed by the sump and gearbox covers.
