But could the car be driven away with the personal plate still on the car ( the seller has the retention with the number on) and then when the documentation comes through he posts me the MOT and tax disc then I put on the original number plate? |

So I wouldn't get stopped by the law with his personal number, tax disc and mot as it would still be registered yo the car?

You don't send the old tax disc back anymore. You are now responsible for destroying the disc. I would have thought now the old plate is on retention and the V5 issued with the old number the car should be on the old plate. The PNC will show the cars old reg and it has tax and MOT so the police shouldn't stop for that reason. You could always re-apply to the DVLA for a new MOT and tax disc. Rob I think you're right. I looked on the net this morning and the original number is now registered back to the car again whereas it wasn't 2 days ago.

Your MOT and Tax disc should arrive first (usually some weeks before the V5) with the authority letter from DVLA to change the plates over... Did mine last Monday by walking into DVLA local office so they could check my paperwork and voila! The MOT and Tax disc was posted back through my door on Friday last week I would ring DVLA sharpish if i were you as the first letter containing your MOT & Tax disc sounds like its gone missing to me... If your log book has turned up with the original number showing then i would suggest DVLA would have expected that to have been put on some weeks ago... Leaving you open to problems with plod... |
