Tailgate catches - oily?

Hi all,
My car has very greasy/oily talgate catches and I am worried someone will get dirty pants if they lean against them! I can't see any reason why anything other than the inside of the release catches need to be lubed so am I OK to give the bodywork and support cables a good clean up?

no lube on mine, prefer mine dry(ish)

just keep it clean, wipe over every so often with rag & WD40 - removes most of the poo

Well first of all if people are standing around your rear end in nothing but their pants then you're doing it wrong, tell them to put some trousers on!

And second, there should be a light coating on the locking mechanism, but it shouldn't be dripping, someone may have got carried away whilst lubing up.

it shouldn't be dripping, someone may have got carried away whilst lubing up.

I find plenty of lube is always required when dealing with the backdo....... oh!
