Fuel sender replacement

I've received a fuel sender unit, this was after my fuel gauge was inaccurate. It gets to a 1/4 full and does not go any lower.

Has anyone attempted to change this unit out themselves? Easy job? Any tips?

From what I remember its pretty straight forward but req the fuel pump to be removed. There's a how to for the fuel pump In the wiki [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

Is it inaccurate over the whole range ?? I mean if you fill it up, does the needle stay on full for a long time before coming down ??. There is a memory in the ECU that holds the last position. If that position changes (due to change out of pump, cleaning tank etc.) and you switch the ignition on again, then it remembers the old position as its baseline to start measuring from (god knows why it is designed like that). I don't know how it can be reset though. Maybe just removing the battery cables from the battery poles, holding the clamps together for 10 secs and then reinstalling them (this resets ECU Fault memories or better wipes the faults, maybe it does the same for the fuel gauge memory). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

There's a certain procedure you have to adhere to when disconnecting the fuel sender or it reads incorrectly.

Try search for the answer

Mine does this. When it gets to just under 1/4 and about 79 miles range, it will cut out. I've been told its either empty and reading incorrectly or the transfer pump in the tank has failed. I'm inclined to go with the latter, as I can only get 80 litres in the tank when it cut out last time. But when I do fill up, it doesn't read full on the gauge. So it could be both.

When I fill her up the gauge reads full. It drops as I would expect ie 100-150 miles later goes to 3/4 etc but when t reaches a 1/4 it stops and then I rely on the remaining fuel gauge on the screen. It's as if the 1/4 mark is the empty mark, also when I reach 60 miles left the fuel light comes on as I would expect.

It would be a relatively easy job to inspect the 2nd sender / transfer pump by opening up the fuel tank inspection cover behind the passengers seat ( rhd cars). Do it when it reads 3/4 empty to see what is actually going on in there. 03 4.4 V8 petrol / lpg. 1st of many hopefully. I love my Rangie
