Just bought a 4.4 2003

Hi there all, I'm a newbie so go easy on me ... although you do all seem a lot more polite than the guys at landyzone Wink

I was one of the first owners of a Black HSE TD6 back in 2002 that came out of Stratstone Derby, however the ex-wife got that in the divorce Crying or Very sad

Don't quite have the finances that I used to be just took the plunge and have won this on ebay -

Can i have your comments guys ? looks to be in good shape for it's age and a decent price ?

Car and price looks OK to me.
I assume you did have a test drive already or before you hand over the money? (which the seller should understand)

Rear wheel arches (check for rust)
Water in spare wheel well
Worn trim (!)
Excessive engine noise (squeaks, rattles FROM COLD)
Lumpy gearchanges
Ensure all heights work for suspension and it rises quickly and evenly (front to back) - it is NOT a common fault as the Ebay ad describes!

Pay specific attention to any knocks coming from the front end whilst hitting bumps. If you can feel them through the steering wheel then you will need to replace the lower ball joints in a few thou' miles. Not very expensive, 100-150 per side. Even cheaper if you do it yourself.

Also read up on the PCV Hoses (do a search) these cause no end of problems that can manifest themselves in all sorts of ways. Take some gloves with you, reach under the rear left hand side of the engine cover and grope around for some 1.5" diameter hoses, if they are all squishy like marshmallow then you should negotiate 150-300 off. These should then be replaced ASAP, doing so you should notice an improvement in MPG of 2-3mpg.

The link above works! The one on the PM wouldn't. nice looking car, those 19" alloys were one of my favourites, nice and chunky, easy to spot a 4.4 with those on.
