Noticed a higher engine noise than normal today, checked the Viscous fan and it can only be rotated a small amount (about 15 deg) can anyone tell me if the viscous fan should rotate freely (push the fan around by hand) when cold?

Changed mine recently as it sounded like an aeroplane taking off under the bonnet everytime I accelerated... The new one didn't feel that much less stiff (ooer) / different to the old one, but now makes no noise.

Might be worth taking it off just to check it is not the water pump on its way out... (sorry to be doom and gloom)  .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember
