Best thing to keep midges away is Cherry Blossom Dark Tan shoe polish

Skin So Soft is good but you end up covered in dead midges.
What we're using up here now is Smidge as it's waterproof and they don't land on you. They do still hover around you so best to keep your mouth shut!!

Another place to stay in Fort William is the Moorings Hotel which is right next to Neptune's Staircase. It's handy if you're following the Caly Canal route and also caters for dogs.

We stayed there a couple of weeks ago, with the dog, and the rooms are good, as is the food and the service.
The dog had his own bed in the room, with some dog biscuits and route for a good walk. We were also able to take him into the bar area, once they stopped serving food.  

Just walked the Great Glen Way from Drumnadrochit to Inverness, they have done a fair bit of work on it recently cutting back the bushed along side the route, made it much easier to walk. There are still a few sections that still need some work. There are a few bits that were fairly rocky as well.

You could try the Kingmills hotel/Kings Club in Inverness or the Craigmonie or if you want close to the town centre with a touch of luxury there is rocpool reserve. 56 TDV8 Vogue SE
