LR Extended warranty

Anyone got any experience of the extended warranty available from Land Rover after 3 years. Is it available to anyone or is it just if you buy approved used?

So for example, if I were to buy an 07 S/C where the warranty had ran out, do they allow you to buy an extra year. If so whats the cost?

If anyones got any experience of this you help would be appreciated. Very Happy

My understanding is that you can only get the LR extrended warranty from a main stealer, but when I bought mine the stealer did tell me there was a better product on the market and i should switch to that after my warrant is up, this alternative product is available to all.

If you buy a vehicle from a main dealer with less than 12 months warentee left it should come with the aproved warentee for 12 months. That seems to give you the same cover as you get in the original 3 years.

After that they'll sell you one for about 800 pounds per year.
BUT... it's not the same as the approved or main 3 year one. It has certain exclusions as most after-market warentees do.
So the warentee company will look at faults to see if they can possibly not pay and you'll have to argue if they are being unfair. I've been there before when a wiper linkage (600 pounds) on a Ford failed at 36,000 miles and they claimed it was "wear and tear". After a heated debate they paid.

When I was offered one (constantly as LR wrote to me three times) I looked at what was excluded and didn't take up the offer of one. Mainly because it excluded too many things and was so expensive, so figured I'd take my chances.

Diagnosis costs are also not normally included. So even if the repair is covered you could have to pay 100 pounds for your dealer to plug the car in and see what the fault is. Rolling Eyes

When I bought my car it had warrantywise's exclusion-less warranty:

They refused to cover the steering column
The water pump
The handbrake warning light
The coolant level sensor
The PCV hoses
The Steering Ball Joints.

So would I recommend them? NO!

Nearly ALL of the warranty companies not pay out unless you have had your car serviced by a main dealer, will all records of this.

I was lucky to get mine with Tesco just before they stopped doing car warranties, they use the same company as the LR Main dealers use for theirs and I had a claim within 2 weeks for the air suspension. As the company was already used to main dealers doing this under warranty, they immediately gave the go ahead for the repair (usual valve replacement) with no quibble. The part is cheap but its a couple of hrs labour so well over £100. I got the premium package which covers virtuallly all mechanical items and even cat. convertors, but it doesn't cover the entertainment system at all. Steve

Don't you think £920 is cheap? I was quoted over a thousand from warranty direct and I bet the cover is nowhere near as good.

It could pay for itself, but I suppose sods law says that if you buy it, then you won't need it Big Cry

Remember that also doesn't include dianostic plug ins.

I had the extended LR warentee, as it was three years old when I got it, so got a years approved with it, but I still had to pay for them to plug it in. Cost about £80 to £100, so that would be on top of the £920. Shocked

The Land Rover extended warranty is available to all RHD Land Rover vehicles provide they fall within the millage and age limits , I think its five years and 75,00 miles for the approved and ten years and 100,000 miles for the select warranties .
If your vehicle has fallen out of the Land Rover warranty system it will require an inspection to comply but this is the only restriction.
It suites me because if I have a problem a local garage is sent out because the Land Rover assist guys are too far away , the locale garage says he dosn't know how to fix Range Rovers and its then put on a flat bed and taken to Glasgow three hours away, meanwhile a three series BMW is put on a flat bed and sent from Glasgow to me.
I don't pay for any thing and any diagnostic plug-ins are up to the mending garage.
For my* £1040 last year this happened four times at a cost of roughly £4,000 to Land Rover and this is before any repairs !
It's a very personal situation but money well spent I feel Thumbs Up
*£1,040 is the price of the warranty plus Land Rover assist. 2008 MY Supercharged
Rimini Red / Jet
four zone climate
remote park heater
and no ugly kid windows.
