Rear wiper not working -rear fuse box query

My rear wiper stopped working a while back. I had the dealer check it when it was being serviced, the feedback was it needed a new motor and a new rear fuse box as there was nt power coming out to the wiper motor, I was quoted £400 with no real explanation. On the basis there is a trend to replace and not repair I told the them to leave it thinking I'd have a go.

I have had the motor out and rigged it up to a spare battery. It worked.

I have nt tested the fuse box yet, keen to remove it, anyone have experience of doing this?

Are you sure it's not just a fuse that's blown?

I checked the fuse and ok. In fact I checked every fuse in the back as the numbering was nt clear. I will put a multi meter on the fuse tonight. I was struggling to understand how a fuse box can fail and without removing it I am not sure who its constructed.

The good news is the rear wiper is nothing to do with the front wipers which are controlled by the BCU.

The rear motor has a control module next to the motor, so you should check if power is getting to this module before you go any further.

The motor has 2 multiplugs. One multiplug has 2.5mm diameter wires supplying permanent battery feed and ground for the motor and control module, the 3rd wire in this plug supplies power for the rear washer pump.

The 2nd multiplug has 0.35mm diameter wires which carry the signal data from the wash/wipe control stalk switch and the LCM and also a power input from the passenger compartment fuse box...

So what the rear fuse box has to do with the problem I'm not sure

Not clear what car you have 666tur (please add to profile), but the '02-'05 handbook indicates that Fuse 80 on the rear fuse box is for the Rear Wash/Wipe, rated 20amps. .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

When you hear of instances like this you can only despair at the low level of technical ability of staff in some Dealerships. Big Cry
Any chance you can post which Dealership so we know to avoid it for anything more complicated than blowing up tyres. Smile
As above what year is your car?

Checked fuse 41 and fine

Checked fuse 80 and blown, replaced the jet started spraying me with water, the motor was not connected to the pipe. I quickly pulled the fuse. Same if I try with ignition on.

I tried with ignition on and using the stalk but nothing. Had to pull fuse again washer was constant.

Seems very strange! 2012 4.4TDV8 VSE

I have a similar issue. My rear wiper and wash packed up ages ago. It's not any of the fuses, and its not the motor spindle issue, as I have test fitted a brand new unit and still nothing. Got a constant 12v on the power plug to the motor unit too.

Summoning up the guts (and budget) to ask the stealer to look at the issue.....

If anyone has any further solutions, it's good to share!!!

I can see it now, someone takes their car in because the keyfob battery is dead

"Well sir after extensive diagnosis we have found the signal is not getting from your fob to the car so we recommend you purchase a new car and keyfob"

I honestly cant imagine how they keep a straight face sometimes.
