How to remove aftermarket (chrome) side mirror covers

I've recently bought a lovey 2007 Vogue with very low kms, but unfortunately has (what I call stupid looking) the aftermarket chrome side mirror covers (upper only). Anybody know how to get these off?

I might have added "without damaging the actual side mirrors"... haha. Thanks for the idea though. It might get to that yet.

Look at this video as to the damage that can have occured to the mirror under the covers... If you are fitting replacement covers then all well and good but just be aware they could have been stuck on with glue that melts the plastic mirror cover... The original chrome covers on this Discovery 3 (ours) were fitted at Stratstone's...

Mine had a set, i managed to get them off with a combination of hair dryer, long flat flexible knife, pulling etc.

Do not make the mistake as i did to try with a bit of cheese wire. I managed to cut a hole in the back of one of the mirrors, so i had to paint and refit them.

A better idea is to book into a bodyshop and give them a few quid to colour code them. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Mine were stuck on with what seems like a whole tube of black silicone. They came off easily enough with heat and a plastic trim tool but the silicone was firmly stuck to the original mirror cowls . I would recommend plastic razor scrapers (Amazon) for removing the bulk of the silicone followed by silicone killer for the residue. It's a few hours work.

One of my covers got damaged clipping something or other so as it was knackered anyway bought colour coded covers from powerful uk and they about 8 years ago and still ok and blend with the rest of the car - just an idea if you damage the plastic one on removal
