Changing green interior LED's

Having way too much time on my hands I jokingly mentioned changing every green interior LED to a white one. I know you can get the dash done for upwards of £150 whilst having the dead pixel display fixed. I have played about with this type of stuff before but never on this scale.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has gone down this road, I have a few bits & bobs to practice on and luckily the RR is very easy to take apart and put back together again. My only worry is the RR has more internal illumination than the starship enterprise so once one starts, there is no going back Razz

The hardest part will be getting LED's that are not to bright or to dim, which is a personal thing i guess. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I think your right, trial and error to match what's already fitted. Modern LED's are always very bright even with a reduced voltage. It might be easier to change the resistance values of the dimming switch. Well iv found something to occupy myself today, the MOT on my other car expires tomorrow so off for a test I go Whistle

No I'd actually leave the yellow ones (suspension/heated seats) I mean anything that lights up green inside once the external lights are turned on. That said do they already emit white but each switch has a green diffuser?

I'll plug a spare pcb in and investigate further.

I think you'll find they are actually green LED's - not white ones with a diffuser Sad

Also, changing the resistance of the dimmer the alter the brightness of replacements isn't that simple - the dimmer just sends a signal to the light control module to tell it to reduce the brightness of the LEDS...

I think they are green too, that's perfect. I'll have a look on RAVE for schematics regarding that control module. In theory it should still be resistance dependent. I know a good electronics company that could identify the values of the green LEDs and offer a similar matched value.

Someone on here did change all their dash leds to white when they had their pixels done. Do a search on "pixels", there were photos too Thumbs Up .

I have been thinking about this for quite a long time too, the dash is the easyest bit to do i think, but the touch screen will be the worst!

I have been thinking a light blue with red heater and hight lights.

It is goining to be a massive undertaking but i think it is the best way to update the feel of the interior.

Im not set on blue and red (i suppose i could have just bought a VW Shocked )

Barracuda my other car is a golf so that must be where it came from Smile

Dave, thanks for the pics. The LED's are a straight forward job. It just takes a steady hand and making sure the polarity is the right way around. Is that the heater switch? I think I'll practice on my old clock panel and post my results before & after. and go from there.

As for touch screen I'm not fortunate enough to own one (yet) but I'm sure as you say it's going to be a similar job.

I noticed the other night that the left hand temp dial is a fair bit dimmer that the right hand side, so I wonder if this is repairable by replacing the control board with the LEDs on it? Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Typically, the resistance of the "dimmer" is used in the PWM circuit to determine pulse width.
You don't dim LEDs using a resistor, you dim them by sending pulses of full voltage; the wider the pulses, the brighter the LED appears.
Pulse Width Modulation.
Otherwise, you have to dump the heat generated by the variable resistor.
