Was looking into batteries today and the Varta i1 is exactly the same as the Bosch S5.

The Varta can be bought here for only £99.03 delivered


The Bosch S5 at Eurocarparts is £153.11 - 'mbclub25' which makes it £114.83

nice find John..the only advantage of buying from ECP is , if live close to a depot you can take it back if/when it fails.. ... - .- -.

The thing with ECP is they have stupidly high prices on their website and offer silly discounts to make us think we're getting a bargain, but on their sister site carparts4less the S5 battery is £115.14 without any discount. It boils my pish when they feckin do that...

So far I have found CP15LESS for a £15.00 off discount coupon at carparts4less bringing their price of the Bosch S5 down to £100.14...



Does anyone know if when you order from carparts4less if it is ECP that make the delivery?



Finally can anyone tell me what the original battery fitted to the TD6 was? I'm guessing it was an 017 battery but can't be sure as mine has a massive Varta YGD 000270 fitted

I've fitted an 017 battery to mine today, (a spare I keep on the C-TEK for the Merc and Audi but it is a heck of a lot smaller that the Varta that I took out of the FFRR). I've now stuck the Varta onto the recondition mode of the C-TEK to see if it helps as I was getting an HDC inactive and Air Suspension lock out fault over the last couple of days.


Problem was first noticed last Thursday when I left the house, after 10 minutes drive on the motorway the HDC & Suspension inactive bongs up on the OBC, switch off and turn the steering all clear and ok again, then on Saturday the same thing at the same spot on the motorway, switch off and restart, turn steering and all ok. Stop a few miles further on and fuel up, then stop again and visit the inlaws before heading up to Fort William and no problems. Sunday start up and drive 30 miles into Fort William and again incident free, then after 3 hours drive from Fort William 100 miles to inlaws without incident. After a cuppa I jump in and start it up and as I drive away it throws the fault again but this time it bongs as I drive away and it feels like the ABS is kicking in or like I'm running over a cattle grid. Switch off and restart and turn steering all all is good again.

So my first port of call is to check battery for power failure and I'm about to take the FFRR out for a spin to see what happens now

Just back from a 15 mile test drive and no faults showed. Does this mean the battery was at fault which would be my guess and an obvious first choice. I'm not 100% sure but reading on the forum about the HDC & Suspension Inactive faults seems to show that it can be either a battery problem of one of the following:- Speed/ABS sensor, ABS module, wiring or connections. If however it was one of these faults then surely it would throw up the fault more or less straight away...

Just need to leave it a few days and see what happens

Thanks KP, that confirms my thoughts that the 017 I fitted today will be fine for the time being allowing me to monitor the situation before splashing out on a new battery.

There again the Varta charging up on the C-TEK right now could be ok once it's been through the recon cycle

Inran around in my tdv8 for a couple of months with an 017, was fine, just didnt like excessive use of the fbh. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Had to go to the other side of town tonight, I was less than 100 yards into the journey when 'bong'...my heart sank, then noticed it was the low temperature warning, stopped when I arrived at my destination, restarted and another low temperature bong. No HDC or Suspension inactive faults. Will see what tomorrow brings
