Replying to posts - Use of Quote and Reply buttons

When replying to posts some forum members are tending to use the 'quote' button , this greatly increases the size of the database behind the site, slows the site down with increased times to load pages and creates more work for moderators.
There are a lot of single line replies to posts directly after the post replied to, with the previous post quoted in its entirety, this is completely unnecessary.

it appears that a considerable amount of members don't realise that there are other sections on the forum other than just 'GENERAL' ....
if you have a technical question/comment , please use the 'TECHNICAL' section...
want to show off your range , then use the 'MY RANGE ROVER ' section , etc..... ... - .- -.

Technical question for Martin --> Is the problem with the quotes more technical than just an increase in text for the DB?

e.g Does the software do fancy stuff like update a quote if the original post is edited? Things like that..

How configurable is the BBS software ?

Quote can be more intuative as it's at the bottom right of the screen - if you could put a reply button there and move quote over to the left, I expect the problem would go away.

Why is it always such a big issue here , on the RRS they use the quote button like its going out of fashion  ====================================

I'm keen to learn about the technical details as I may be able to fix it, I've never experienced a site slowing down because of too much text in the DB. One of my sites had 3 GBs of random log files in the DB and it had no ill side effect at all.

Either the problem is with the software or the server and I'm sure both can be fixed

its not a big issue here as most use the correct forum etiquette but some newer members do use the quote button un-neccessaraly ..........and regarding the RRS forum , how difficult is it to read the threads there..


i think the majority of members appreciate a free flowing thread that they can read without having to read quotes from the previous thread.. ... - .- -.

You should have a "reply" button next to the "quote" button in the bottom right corner of each post.
I believe this would help a great deal.

I am a member of a couple of forums with over a million members in each. They don't have any "quote" restrictions....... .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember

Never mind the size of the DB, as a matter of etiquete it is irritating for threads to be full of quotes, one reason I like this forum as it saves so much scrolling.

The worst are those who quote a massive post full of pics just to say
