Got a reply a snotty one at that !!! Big Cry

Thanks for your input I think you need to do a bit more homework into orange range rovers, landrover made 2 different orange range rovers, one style is the versuvious orange which the first generation were all supercharged second generation were supercharged and tdv8s. The other style were tangeirs orange made especially and only for the g4 challenge. Yes they had a roof rack and ladder etc but they have been removed to make it a more everyday car. One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

Vesuvius orange was only RRS and Tangier's G4 across the range.

Dear southern_invester,

Its not actually a genuine G4 is it? They had a load of extras as standard like winch bumper , roof rack, ladder and loads of little extras. One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

He also says in the advert:

THE NUMBER PLATE G4 DNS COMES WITH THE CAR

That sounds kinda cool, G4 number plate on a G4 Range Rover, then you see the pictures and the number plate is actually G2 DNS.

All the info you could ever want about the various G4 events can be found here
http://www.g4ownersclub.com/AboutVehicles.htm

A quick check with Land Rover on the VIN would confirm things. Looks all wrong to me but I could be wrong. It "might" have had the racks etc removed to make the car a bit more useable but ....if so, where are the bits? And there should be exposed rivnuts on the back for the access ladder. Oh, and where are all the G4 stickers? You wouldn't remove them to make it "More everyday", I mean as if the Tangiers orange isn't enough, Christ it almost qualifies as one of your 5 a day Laughing

The lack of a winch is the big thing for me. To remove that would mean whole new front bumper and bracketry so a real ball-ache to remove.

And here's the thing, WHY? Just Why would you ?? You don't buy a G4 to have an everyday car, you buy a Vogue. If you do buy a G4 then you want it as original as possible.

Oh, and them fekkin alloys Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

It would help to know the original reg as well. Thing is, the colour is genuine and I'm not sure it was an option on anything except a G4, or was it ?

Check the tailgate up close. To the left of the lettering RANGE ROVER should be some rivnuts. OK, they could have been removed and the tailgate painted.............

No winch. Right, so looking back at event information there was at least one car with no winch
http://www.g4ownersclub.com/Resources/2003...00x535.jpg
But that's the only one I can find and it's not that car - wrong grille, no lamp guards, no roofrack and no aerial socket in front of the rack.

But, all that said, there were 30 Range Rovers on the 2003 event (no Sports in 2003) but I can't find any record of this one.

And like I said, why would you take a G4 and spend top dollar making it look less outrageous? You'd just buy a Vogue.

Now, one for Gaz.....
The 2006 event cars were Petrol V8's, so would that be the Jag or BMW engine?

If I advertised a cosworth sierra RS 500 and it was an original RS 500 but it had a 2ltr OHC and gl interior with aftermarket wheels dfoes that make it an RS 500? i dont think so. One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

Well, technically it isn't an RS500, but it is relatively easy to return to spec, and as long as it says RS500 on the V5..........

So, supposing it's a stripped back G4 which was genuine at some point. Returning it to spec would cost: (assuming you can actually get the parts)
Safety Devices roofrack - 500
rear access ladder - god knows
Rock sliders. hahahahahahaha. Rocking horse poo.
Decals.....reproduction ones are heinously expensive but can be had
Alloys & tyres. 1000 (probably the easiest bit)
Winch & bumper. ???
Lamp guards - cheap enough
All the gubbins which would be the accessories listed. ???

And then there's the small matter of a blown engine, which you'd want to get rebuilt to keep the number. 2 grand ?

Rip off that nasty LPG Censored and make good all the damage. Easily a grand.

So in good condition, complete & original with sensible mileage it should fetch 12 grand. To my reckoning, in current condition needing 5 or 6 grand spent it's a £5k motor. On a good day. And that assumes it was once a genuine G4.
