That's what I love about this forum... It started off as a post about me hitting a rock and the car stopping and has turned into a post about rimming and dogging..... Laughing Previously..

If you look at the pictures in Contraband's gallery you see his FFRR in the driveway and this sign pointing to his house in the background Laughing Laughing

Damn.... Bad night 2

We had a bad night last night. The day started off ok involving a 150 mile trip to Hull to collect our caravan from Swift. Drove back to the site which was an extra 30 miles.
On arrival at the site, we noticed there was no-one in the house/office that's on the main gate. Site was in complete darkness as its shut during Feb. I drove on and proceeded up the hill to our new pitch ( old one lower down got flooded last year).
Tried to reverse the van onto the gravel pitch but the ff's wheels just spun on the soggy grass. I decided to drive around in a circle to take another bite of it. Still no luck, so I said I'd take it back down to the gate where there's a storage area. That's when the problem started. The ffrr slid sideways along the grass with the van still attached. I managed to straighten out but then got firmly bogged down! FF wouldn't budge. I unhitched the van and tried again- nothing! Just 4x 20" wheels spinning merrily in mud. Shortly afterwards, the dash lit up like a Christmas tree- HDC inactive/ air susp inactive, traction light on. Oh dear!
I tried ringing the site owner but they didn't answer. By now, it's an hour later and pitch black. I walked off the site and up the lane and knocked on a few doors but no-one answered. I eventually got someone to answer who had the site owners other number. They answered and promptly despatched a tractor to pull us out! That made things look easy. The driver said "trouble with these 4x4's- everyone thinks they'll go anywhere".

I was ready to bed down for the night in the van to be honest. Thankfully, all the faults cleared on the dash by the time I got out.

The air was blue last night - good job we were in the middle of nowhere!

Shocked That is a bad night indeed. It's a bit worrying when the dashboard lights up, but I had the same, so it probably does it for a reason. When I had all 4 wheels spinning on the snow with a flat tyre the "brain" must lose the plot and shut everything down. At least it sorts itself out Thumbs Up Previously..

From my understanding 20" wheels are bad for traction on anything but tarmac, all year round 18" wheels would have made a huge difference.

Next time you get stuck, try lowering the tyre pressure by a decent amount Thumbs Up

More the tyres than the wheel size I would have thought.....

On wet grass, deflating wouldn't have made much difference - wet grass is very similar to driving on ice.

Lower tyre pressure works on loose surfaces, particularly sand as it increases the contact area of the tyre and keeps it floating rather than sinking.

18" wheels with tyres on the same tread pattern tyres as 20's would most likely have had the same outcome - except the car wouldn't have looked as nice Razz
