Towbar help

When I bought my car it came with a westfalia detachable towbar but its all connected, ie the tow all is already seated in the socket that normally stays on the car, I can't separate them but I am unsure if its broken or not, I can't get the either of the keys to turn in the lock and the wheel sits off centre although it still turns ok, to separate should the red bit on the wheel be in the green area on the towbar? Iv attached some pics below to see if the wheel looks correct or if its bent?

The wheel looks damaged to me, the bottom of it should be flush with the body of the towbar the whole way round. Yours is definitely at a jaunty angle

That's what I thought, that will be why it's all been removed in one piece then, there dosen't look to be any marks on the wheel where it may have hit the ground and bent it so wonder how it got bent :s have to buy a new towbar then

tis damaged indeed...these do seize because of where they are basically, underneath the range......these are always on ebay and i would pay a little extra and get a new one, but leave it off until you need to use it.. ... - .- -.

Lol good point, I wonder if the poor guy with the crushed rr will buy me a new one, would this still be ok to use or is it not worth the risk?

It might be ok if its just lock . Once its secure I wouldnt think it should affect functionality? I would fit it and test how solid it is. Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

Yeah I don't think I'll bother, I don't need a towbar till the summer when I need to tow my boat so I'll get one sorted before then, cheers

If you're happy with taking the whole assembly on and off I would be tempted to weld it in solid so that should the lock fail it isn't going to go anywhere. If you feel the need to buy a new part then pfjones are cheapest for proper westfalia parts Thumbs Up
Looking at your photos again I wonder if it is possible to strip down the parts and just replace the lock? Obviously the strip down may reveal that this is impossible. But I don't see that you necessarily have anything to lose by the process.

Mines is welded. i just take the whole thing off and leave it in the garage until i need it. only 1 bolt so not hard to do. either that, pf jones do seem to be the cheapest for westfalia towbars. '04 td6 se
