I had a 4.6, loved it, I would go petrol with an LPG conversion, I had no problems with mine but I believe the suspension can be unreliable, hence many of them converted to shocks and springs. This place may be better as this is a Full Fat or L322 Range Rover forum and most have no idea about P38's although some might.

I have had several P38s in the distant past. i would recommend if budget allows going for the later bosch THOR v8 (99/2000 onward?) rather than the earlier lucas single plenum.Later ones seem less prone to liner slip, although by no means immune from it |

I had a 1992 RR Classic, and then a Disco 2 as I was not convinced a P38 would be reliable enough..........

Well my mate isn't handy with car repairs and after some advice from you chaps and some former owners on the D3 on the sister site I may persuade him to look elsewhere.
