What do I need to do to make this work for my 2003 TD6 HSE.
Obviously it would need to be cut but I have a spare key that is has faulty electronics, everthing else works. It will start the car it just doesn't unlock it using the remote buttons. Yes I have tried to reset and replaced the battery.
Is it possible to take a new key and program it by using the reset method as found in Wiki

I have been down this road already as I only got one key with the car and it was not great so I bought one of these!
Problem is they are what is known as chinese blanks and the metal the key is made from is to hard and no one will cut it as it knackers thier machine.
The other option is to send your key to the seller that you dont know along with your address Eh on thanks.
So only option is the stealership as they are coded to your vehicle but when you get the new key you still have to program it to the car with the buttons or pay the stealership £80 to do that dont think so!

All I need is the remote door opening gubbins. I have a spare working key with transponder to allow me to start the car. Did you have any issue getting the remote programmed to open the doors?

I believe the only route is a new key from LR. £££  .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember

I bit the bullet and ordered a key. It arrived i just over a week and came with a complimentary sweetie.
It comes with battery installed which I confirmed by pressing the buttons once I had it out of its package.
Pop out to the car with my original key and the new one, do the synching and wahey I now have another working remote. Important to do that to verify it will work. Back inside and open up my old spare key with the faulty remote and remove the electronics and bin them. Next open up the new key and remove the electronics and put it inside the old key. The board is a bit different but fits into the space, it also has microswitches on it instead of the carbon tracks of the oe one. Reassemble the old key with the new electronics and job done.
I have kept the left over parts as spares. I have a blank key, a spare unset transponder and a duff electronics.
If I can get the transponder recoded then I can have a spare non remote key.

If you buy a blank off ebay and have a good cut key but whose electronics are duff (but with a working transponder) its a relatively easy thing to gently heat the metal part til you can pull it free (it melts the small platic dowel through the metal part), swap them over and araldite into the new holder with transponder swapped across.

What I found perfect for the job was the crack around the hot plate on my aga which was snug enough to hold the key on its own heating along the blade to melt the plastic but nothing else.

Worked a treat.

Unfortunately I need a spare anyway as only have one transponder.
