excellent write up Thumbs Up
it is a bit messy, i have the luxury of a 4 post lift but the constant dripping when the sump is off is a bit of a pain and is difficult not to get some oil on yourself
i note the colour of the fluid which was the same as mine { 95000 miles ] , to date i have changed my fluid 3 times as you cant empty the torque convertor , my fluid is a lot cleaner but its certainly not the colour of the new fluid going in 1990 3.5 v8 defender

Just to add one thing, once you have drained the sump put the plug back in and run the car for a few seconds, do this a couple of times and you will prob get another litre out of the box, if you have no apparent leaks measure how much came out and this is roughly what needs to go back in. One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

That was a truly excellent technical thread! Bow down

I'm used to changing oil in my 110's and Series gearboxes, so am used to the messy bit. Never changed oil in an auto before and was always perturbed by disconnecting the selector mechanism.

I do believe your write-up has reinstated my confidence. Thumbs Up Si. <This is my name.

Many thanks for your kind responses....with the cost of garages nowadays it makes sense to try these things ourselves....and I am glad it helps others to save some cash...!!

I was a bit worried about those ramps, what weight rating do they have? Per axle / per ramp ? .
