Many thanks guys I think to summarise the vehicle WILL need to be upgraded with the recall work.

I have spoke to the dealer today who told me that the vehicle is booked in with Guy Salmon next monday and that they are muttering things like "good will gestures" so fingers crossed the repair will get caried out at no cost (to me at least!!)

I agree the CV joint is the best way to go and does allow flexibility but your original statement Steptoe saying it had nothing to do with alignment is just plain incorrect.

The mis-alignment wasn't the problem. It was the symptom.

You can align it until the cows come home. But it won't stay aligned Very Happy

I'm not going to argue with you, I'm sure in your head you are right - just the rest of the world disagrees with you.

Yes, and one that Land Rover had desperately tried to fix through issuing Technical Bulletins to the garages giving detailed instructions on how to set up the alignment accurately :

In June 2008 they finally threw in the towel and began their Loyalty Assurance Programme (which was definitely not a recall Wink ) to fit the extra propshaft joint and abandon the spline connection.

Even before that they were replacing propshafts and final drives (to the old design) free of charge – including my car, after its spline failed. The whole episode must have cost them a fortune.

United States 2005 Range Rover HSE 4.4 V8 Chawton White

When I bought my 2005 (US) FFRR, that was the first thing I checked, and I would not have purchased the vehicle if the repair/recall had not been done.

Also, the left headlight was out when I was looking at it.
I took it to an indy LR guy who hooked up his AutoLogic box.
He told me it wasn't the lamp, it was the whole stinking $1300 control system.
I returned to the dealer from whom I was going to buy it and got IN WRITING their assurance they would fix the headlight by sending it to a LR dealer for repair.

Sales guy just laughed at me, saying "It's only the bulb, you'll see"
I got the last laugh when it cost THEM $1300 to have it fixed. Twisted Evil Jim
