Surround cameras - any use?

Contemplating ticking the box when I am allowed to order a new car. Has anyone got the camera system and can report back if they are worth having on-road, off-road and towing? I wonder if they bring any advantages or are just another thing to go wrong.

We've got them on our 2012 Autobiography.

It's not something we'd add as an option, they were already spec'd on this car when we bought it.

Most of the time they're a bit of a gimmick, however I have once or twice found them handy when manoeuvring in and out of some really tight spots where there's only an inch or two either side of the car. They take more attention off you though meaning you're more likely to clobber something if you're looking at the side cameras on the screen and not out of the back of the car.

The only thing they seem to be any good for it "look at this" to people who have never seen them before.

They certainly aren't something we'd ever spec on a car and pay for.

On the current car not worth it (but helpful for offroading). On the L405 they are brilliant so go for it on that. *Gone* Discovery3 HSE

Already on mine.

A bit of a gimmick, fun having them on when driving down the road.

useful off road but you can use the venture cam to see where you are positioned so not sure I'd tick

instructer tried to sell them to me on the Landrover Experience, two on the vehicle did not work due to wet and that was on a brand new car.
It does give you vision options when off road but would never be used so a gimick that will cost ££££ to keep working dont bother IMHO Mine was a blue one! Smile

For those saying don't bother, have you seen the viewing angle on the L405. It really is very useful for blind junctions. Admittedly on our current car they are not really worth it, although i do use the cameras on the wing mirrors to guide me on the channel tunnel.

Are they not needed for blind spot monitoring as well? *Gone* Discovery3 HSE

Came with our 2012 HSE and we used it once, when the dealer demonstrated its features. It is currently set on "rear camera" and I suspect will remain as such. 2012 Range Rover HSE LUX

After using bimmer surround cam, I had high expectation towards this cam system.
Currently I`m having it on my 2012 TDV8, but much less functional then the other brand.
As previously told, if you are watcing this too much, you might miss the real action around your car! Smile
Would not buy again (the cams)
It`s good for showing, though...
