I think these are 2 completely diff mods, the headlight mod is far closer to a 2010 conversion, a lot of non RR drivers would prob not notice the difference, Joe's mod is definatly a diff approach but I dont see the difference between it and driving with the fogs on which is a pet hate of 90% of normal motorists, in fact its only the fact its on a RR that makes it legal on any other car it would not be, in fact on a 2010 it would be illegal to drive with fogs on in normal visibility. One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

the difference with Tim's [and mine] mod is that they are leds in the fogs which are activated automatically when the ignition is switched on and go out [automatically] when the headlights are on...side lights are not needed for these drl's... ... - .- -.

I'm not driving on fogs, but DRL's, they just happen to be in the fog lights. (I have mine set to dim by 50% when headlights come on, they are a simply a light on with no throw when in this state).

Also not sure why it would be OK to do it in a FFRR and not in other cars? .

Because as far as the police would be concerned you are using fog lights and the law states that lights used in normal conditions IE not foggy have to be a certain distance from the road because they do dazzle as they are too low down on the car when approaching from the front, my point being you may know they are DRL's but 90% of other people are prob making derogatory comments about driving on fogs trying to look cool, I think anything that gets the car noticed and avoids the sorry mate didnt see you accident is good (im a motorcyclist) its just not the way I would choose to do it, I just would drive with the headlights on, job done. I have the regs downloaded somewhere as we get customers asking for stuff like this and I used to show em the relevant legislation. One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

so what about golf's etc that use their main beams as drl's, surely driving with mains on is illegal ...granted they are lower power but you get my drift..

Highway Code Rule 236
"You MUST NOT use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced (see Rule 226) as they dazzle other road users and can obscure your brake lights. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves."

The standard front headlights and sidelights of a car, van or lorry have to conform to strict specifications regarding their position. Fog and spot lights are usually outside of that specification, even when fitted by the manufacturer. Therefore they cannot be used unless the headlights are also on. Even then they must be aligned so as not to cause dazzle, and you must have noticed how many people drive around with mis-aligned lights.

It's a case of conformance to the Road Vehicle Construction and Use Regulations so there isn't any "wriggle room"

Stan, some of the new cars light systems are ridiculous I nearly rear ended an Audi the other day as he was braking and indicating but the indictors were invisible due to the ultrabright LED brakes lights.

Just google Front fog lights illegal and see peoples thoughts on this subject, the least slagged off combo is dipped beam and fogs/only sides on the rear, most slagged off is sides and fogs (to look cool) One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

Basically its more than if they are fitted its got to be legal to use them, there are regs as to where they need to be fitted on a vehicle but they are still only to be used at certain times. One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!
