Keys - a query

Right - I have 2 keys and one is mucking about.

Key 1 - Does everything remote lock/unlock, key in door lock/unlock, start & drive, in fact everything.

Key 2 - Lock/unlocks via key in door, start & drive. What it does not do is remote lock/unlock.

Now, i have done a search and after much reading I am braced to replace keys, BCM, replace locks, fuses almost the whole car(?).

The 'recoding' procedure is this done through all the steps for each key?.

Does any kind person out there have any ideas what i am doing wrong?.

Many thanks in advance.

give it a good run round in the ignition before panicking too much, some of the keys are self charging when they are in the ignition. give it a good run for an hour or so and then see if the transmitter works.

I dont know for sure and im sure someone will be here to correct me but if it starts the car then it sounds to me if the key is already coded correctly it could be that the battery in the unit is flat. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

it sounds like you need to re-sync the key but you cant do just one you have to do the pair,as if you do one it will knock out the other, V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Daveo,
re-sync the pair?. I think that is what i meant by recoding! - is this were the key is turned in the ignition to initiate it then each key is held near the aerial and a sequence of buttons held & pushed then the key is put back in the ignition to finalise it?.
I have a feeling that as i am doing each key individually only the last key is working;
ie 1st Key intiate, program and uninitiate - then 2nd key initiate, program and uninitate.
2nd key is knocking out the 1st.
Could this be what i am doing wrong??

NMJ
I will run around with it in the ignition - i was unaware that it charges whilst driving.

Many thanks

If you have the old style key (non flip style) then they have a battery and are not self charging.

The procedure you should try with all operational keys is the ignition to pos. 1 and the button pressing ritual. Sometimes you have to do it more than once I have found. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

You need to sync bothe keys if you change the battery in any of them I have the list of what to do when some where ! what year is your car and I will look it out and post the steps.
I got a new key and the stealership wanted £80 to program the keys Shocked so I had a mate get me the info on how to do it and it takes about 3 mins to do it no tools required.

Its a 2006MY with the non-flip keys.
I am heading back to Sussex tonight - beast going into garage tomorrow for intermittent rear brake problem.
I have packed both keys so will attempt to re-sync whilst there.
I have the push button procedure but did not pick up on the subtle 'do all keys' before uninitiating procedure via ignition.
Looking forward to a nice pint of Harveys tonight though......

Many thanks indeed for all the help.
