insurance :-(

Insurance renewal time. Should be ok I think to myself...

Then the renewal comes through from. Current insurer - Swiftcover - and it's more than doubled since last year. So, onto some comparison sites and get some better quotes.

Take out new policy, then the trouble begins.

They call me back and ask for an extra £200 as I have made a non-fault claim. You may remember that a cab hit my car in the car park at work, and I sorted it out with the cab firm and all was good. Insurance didn't need to pay out.

But I've got to pay a lot more for my insurance for the next five years.

So, I didn't make a claim. No insurance companties paid out. But I have to pay more.

Anyone know a good broker?

I'll give them a ring tomorrow. But £400 is about the same as the loaded price I am getting.

They initially wanted over £600 from me till I went on the comparison sites, they beat the cheapest quote, and then I haggled a bit more.

I was paying £200 for a T reg Diuscovery 2.......

Perhaps you have a good deal after all !! ? 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Having an accident is like a Damoclean sword:

1. Don't tell your insurers straight away, in case you can resolve without going through insurers, risking the need to tell them later on, when they question why you didn't contact them immediately, possibly invalidating any claim. Evil or Very Mad

2. Tell them straight away, in which case you get hammered next time round, even if it isn't your fault at all. Evil or Very Mad .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

Exactly. They seem to want to hammer you, regardless. I really didn't expect my insurance to double this year.

It seems to be a lottery, I went to Adrian Flux (we have a couple of other company vehicles insured with them) and they wanted over £1000, for me and the FF, daft price.

I went to Swiftcover and they did it for £400ish, last year. Now I almost had a claim on it earlier in the year, but it only went down as a notification, some one hit me when parked on a road, at night. Got it sorted myself in the end as the other party had scarpered.

When I asked if the Notification would have an effect on my renewal i was told no, but its due in a couple of weeks so we shall see. I have compared the meercats and it looks as though its £400 again for me on the PC websites, thats for a 37 y.o. man in derbyshire parked on a drive in a good postcode with swmbo insured as well.

Swmbo may have to be taken off this year as her part of the premium will be going up due to the ECJ ruling on insurace equality..... gone are the days of putting your mrs on to get a lower premium, if anything it may well put it up... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

If my experience is anything to go by, you should grease up and try not to tense up.

Anyway checked had forgotten she had a no fault bump where we claimed all off other driver and never claimed or informed our insurance result was another £75 on the quote ba****ds. Mine was a blue one! Smile

Just renewed with Swift cover,

After a bit of jiggery pokery with the settings, adding business use correcting my occupation, etc, i managed to get it down to £501. incl NCD protection and Legal.

The killer was that SWMBO had an accident last jan, on my policy in another car, they said I could put it down as her accident if she was on the policy last year, however if i took her off it would have to go on my claims list.

So took her off, £435......added the accident to me, £566....... put her back on with the accident as hers (which it was) £501.

Changed from Company Director to Chartered Surveyor subtract £18
added business use subtract £10

Not too bad all things considered, Oh and they had gotten my NCB wrong as well, had 9 years, should have been 11. made the difference of £1. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
