Scotland 2002 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Epsom Green
Trans failsafe Prog

Hi

I know there is a lot of debate concerning this error. I only get it sometimes and only at start up. Once the car is running and there is no error I then move the gear lever even by as little as a mm, forward to back or side to side, I will sometimes get the error. If I do get the warning I have to switch off, shake the lever and restart.

I never get the error once I'm on the move in Drive. Only at start up.

Is there some sort of micro switch at the lever which may cause this error?

Battery voltage issue maybe?

If you're thinking it could be a inhibitor switch fault then you should have a P0705 DTC stored in the controller. Might be worth selecting Neutral rather than Park when you start the engine to see if this makes a difference?

If I put the key in ignition and the car isn't started I can still activate the fault by wiggling the lever. It may be the battery I guess but it does seem more like a loose connection or something.

More investigation required I guess

Still haven't checked fault codes, but if I put the gear shift into Neutral before starting I do not get the trans Fail safe error. I can then move the shift into drive and no further problems until I put it into Park and then get the fault. 2002 Vogue Epsom Green with Ivory Leather.

You have an inhibitor switch fault

Edit - Oops, hadn't noticed the date - this fault must have been sorted months ago

Do you have a battery charger or boost box? Even though your battery will start the car OK put your battery jump pack on before starting then do the same procedure to try and replicate the fault... If you cannot get it to do it then you know your battery maybe 10% below par Thumbs Up

Should give you a definitive answer about battery voltage Thumbs Up
