Any experience of windscreen fitters?

Hi Guys,

Hope you are all having a good festive period

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of having a new windscream fitted by and of the national windscreen co.s

I have a large crack developing in mine, from a barely visible stone chip. Complete pita.

On the upside, quite a few of the heating wires had stoppes working.

Probably going to give autoglass a call but windering if there are any better fitters out there. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

Not covered by insurance?

Just be there when they come to do it:

Make sure they know exactly which model your vehicle is and that they have the right screen (auto dim mirror / heated screen)

Have they fitted one to a FFRR before?

Do they know how to remove the rear view mirror and wire up the heated screen bits?

How will they tackle the A pillar covers (on mine they drilled out the existing rivets and fitted with new)?

Do they have all the sealing bits to go with it (top, sides, scuttle)?

You can test the heated screen with clingfilm before they leave......

National Windscreen guys did mine, took them a good couple of hours on a dry day, only downside was a stone chip I picked up 2 weeks later and the heated screen is like a zebra on a frosty morning (seems as if another element goes pop every time I use it) ! .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

As above but make sure its a genuine one if possible as others have noted problems with non OE ones.

Also make sure the top trim is put back as well because if it not fitted right it makes a lovely noise at speed Sad FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Cheers for the replies guys, it is covered on the insurance, and having luckily
Read the small print, i have called autoglass.

Aparently i have no choice, swiftcover will only pay out if you use them, if you dont they will only pay out ฃ100.
Lucky i checked.

The lady on the phone checked it against the vin of the car so she got the right one. Wasnt in stock but will be available for fitting at home on monday. last time autoglass did one on my skoda they bought the wrong screen. Big Cry

I will be here when they do it so hopefully they will do a good job. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

If you have any problems give me a shout as I fit quite a few ffrr windscreens due to the amount of farmers around here.

I recently had a new screen fitted by Autoglass in Preston. I took the car to them as it was a Censored day.

I'd called them before hand and told them of the existing spec and that I wanted a pilkington glass screen.

Can't fault them, no mess whatsoever, quiet as an Angels fart and everything working as it should.

I guess I found a good fitter!

Best of luck.

Phooey.

In the end I took the car to them and left it, I asked what screen would go in and the fitter said it would be an OE spec one not a Splintex.

Any how have just collected it, all seems fine and dandy. I suspected that it had had a screen before as the wipers were mis aligned, he said it had, and had put the wipers back in the correct place. They have fitted a Pilkington screen which is great, and i have noticed that the wires for the heater seem thinner. The have fitted new trim clips and plastic rivets to the A pillar trims.

All in all it looks to be a top notch job. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

Just about to have a replacement screen fitted - can you advise how you test with clingfilm?
