No GLS listed on Head Unit

Hi

Just bought my first Range Rover, what a fantastic vehicle.

Having a problem with the Head Unit, it doesn't see the CD's in the changer and also doesn't list the Sat Nav in the Menu or the CD unit. I have found that there isn't any power at the moment to the Nav Unit in the boot, would this then cause it not to be listed?

OR, would both these issues point to the Head Unit, radio works by the way so at least some sound Smile

Cheer for your help

Paul

Hi Paul.

The screen in the front is just that, a screen. It is controlled by and connected to everything in the boot. The units will not be appearing on the screen as they are not identifying themselves on the ibus. Your issue is definately in the boot, and having no power to sat nav unit will cause issues, as the units tend to "daisy chain" through each other.

Check the fuses for the nav and double check all the plugs on the units in the boot.

Have a look for water ingress / dampness near the units, and on the boot floor (near the spare wheel) as this can be a common issue, which tends to damage the electronics.........

In the first instance, I'd investigate the power to the nav unit, and go from there.........you will need those standard radio removal tools to get it out, or you can use a coat hanger or something if needs be.

EDIT: Just had a look on RAVE, Fuse 40 in the glove box is for the CD changer and should be 5 amp, can't see one specifically for the sat nav, but as the radio is working, I'd imagine power is fine to the boot area......

Thanks for that. The CD is getting power as the disc cartridge does eject and appears
to work, just no discs read at unit. But as you say the Head Unit just monitors then the
CD unit must be goosed.

The Nav unit (DVD) in the back has no lights and won't eject so I'll look at the power in
that area. Must be power at the radio so maybe a loose connection in the boot.

The Nav Unit isn't the DVD, oops, its the CD version. I also found a matchstick jammed in the side of the blue connector so I would guess somebody previously has had a problem and got round it by jamming the plug into the Nav unit.

Still to measure the voltage though as it has the smallest holes, I'll need to find some wire to poke into the holes to enable me to read the voltage.

Fuse No 40 does do the CD changer unit but that already has power, so must be the head reading the discs not working.

Brilliant help on here.

Knowing that the display was different when the Nav Unit wasn't working was exactly what I needed. I didn't take the photo but I did jiggle the blue plug which then put power onto the unit.
Once the power was there then the Head Unit display changed to give me the On road GPS and Off road.

Just left with the CD changer not reading CD's

Thanks

Not sure how much laser replacement is, might be worth checking that first, they normally seem to be about £200 on e.bay, as long as I can cover the cost of the intravee I would be happy (£150) Try these guys first for a quote

Thanks Buddy, I'll give them a call, maybe they will take my unit and re-furb it.

The laser itself is prob cheap its the fitting, does the cd changer try and load a disc or does it have a stuck disc in it. One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

It seems to go through it's normal load, I've put in 3 discs in different positions in the cartridge but on the Head Unit it still says no discs loaded.

Just another quick question. When I was taking the Nav uit out I found an aerial lead lying loose. It looks like one that would normally plug into an ordinary head unit so not sure where it would go as it's lying in the boot. My radio does pick up the radio stations without this connected.
