Germany 2009 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Bournville
Replacing a key

Gentlemen:

I have a problem ordering a second key for my RR (2009 Bourneville). When I bought the car roughly one year ago, the p.o. could not find the second key, so we agreed that I order a new one (and he pays for it).

Sounds like an easy job, but the friendly LR dealer here has all sorts of problems getting one. The first order was placed in August and, after delivery of the key in October, it turned out that the mechanical key does not fit the locks.

Inquiry with LR and the original dealership who sold the car indicated that the locks were not replaced, so the original ones are most probably still in place.

Now ordered a second one hoping that someone punched in a few wrong numbers when programming the CNC machine which grinds or mills the key. It seems that LR will not provide a blank key which we could take to a trusted key maker in order to use the working original as a template.

Did anyone ever face this kind of problem? Any clue?

Best,

Andreas

could be a a mistake like you say when inputting the VIN with the factory.

the ignition barrell maybe worn, try wire wool on the new key to take the sharp edges down You can paypal direct using - www.paypal.me/duckworthparts

Thank you for the response. The keys quite obviously look different. Maybe the VIN error is the explanation. I do not know about the exact procedure, but I assume that eventually somewhere someone must punch in the numbers.
