Anyone ever replaced the *rear* windscreen? | |
Through my own stupidity I scratched the rear screen of my '08 Vogue whilst backing it into a space in a multi-storey car park . Whilst concentrating on the parking sensor beep I failed to notice that the next level of the car park overhung my space at about mid-screen height. Next thing I heard creaking glass and I hit the brake and moved forward again. Although the screen didn't shatter, the concrete has scratched the rear screen in the centre where it bows out furthest. The finisher plates either side are ok.
The scratches are not noticeable from a distance but have definitely cut into the glass. My dealer says it'll cost about 1000EUR (800 pounds) to order and refit. My insurance will cover it (with 150EUR excess) but demand that Autoglass do it.
My questions are:
My rangie was built in December '07, making it an '08 model year car, I think. I read that the acoustic glass came in from '07 model year onwards but was it standard or an option?
Was the rear screen acoustic, too, or just the front?
Is there anyway I can tell whether an acoustic screen is fitted?
Other than the heating element, are there any other electronics to hook up to the rear screen?
Do Autoglass fit Pilkington screens (as is currently fitted) or some other brand?
I've heard bad things about Autoglass jobs on Range Rovers so I'm hoping I can get my insurance to let my dealer do it...
This will be my first ever insurance claim so the whole process is all new to me. Thanks for any info you can offer.
