All dash display lights down...night driving with torch

having searched for a good while and now bamboozled by suggestions, I'm at my wits end. The dash lights and heater control lights have all stopped working. I'm just getting the pixel display at the bottom which will increase / decrease intensity with dimmer switch. had the headlight switch off and cleaned, checked wires behind steering wheel for breaks, even played with memory seats as suggested by someone.
has anyone else experienced this.? the lifghts didnt just suddenly stop working, they were intermittent for a few weeks before finally dying.
any help much appreciated.

They are controlled by the LCM (Lighting Control Module) - it's worth looking for error codes there. Also check all fuses (obvious!) and look for shorts - mine were out when I got the car, and the short was inside the passenger door at the front where the power goes to light up the LED in the interior door handle.

I would guess that the waterfall lights are also out!

Hi Simes
Thanks for that.... checked all fuses, they're fine, I think the waterfall lighting is still lit, can check that tonight. but that's interesting, a potential short in passenger door. Had a suspension issue last year and that was traced back to a short in the very same place !!

There is no such thing as a coincidence!

I'd start my search there then!

OK will try there 1st. Just a quick one, I was under the impression that the LCM only controlled exterior lighting, am I well wrong ?

Yes - it controls the exterior lighting - and everything associated with it. So the interior lights that come on with the exterior lights (Dashboard, door handles, waterfall etc) are all through it - I think the main interior lights (in the roof and boot) are also controlled by it.

Good luck - chances are it's a cheap fix (probably a bit of insulating tape!) but tracking it down can be a nightmare. The LCM is meant to control the current if there is a short, to stop the MOS-FET output transistors from frying - but I wouldn't drive around with out diagnosing the fault for too long...
