Not got a caravan, but with my trailer, its tyre pressures and nose weight each trip.

I tend to run with the rears 2 PSI up all the time anyway as the RR is mainly used to tow but we do not have much in the RR, if it was full then I would blow them up to the fully loaded pressure.

Tyre pressure as per the manual - same on the caravan - reverse the car under the tow hook on the van, connect up, head to the hills - check the mirrors as you pull away to make sure she's following you! |

Just general safety i.e when was it last serviced ? Check tyres for flat spots , check lights and general condition maybe if your caravan hasnt been used for a while do all the above and maybe take it out for a short run just to make sure everything feels ok and check wheels for heat incase you have a sticky brake atleast you can get it sorted first rather than find out on the way to your holiday onto no6 Range Rover

Tyre pressures followed very closely by wheel nut torque particularly on the near side as if a wheel is going to work its way lose then it'll be one on the near side. Next is that all windows are in fully closed position. Then check that the aerial is down & fastened. Turn off caravan gas. Check nose weight with a suitable item. Have you worked out the weight in the caravan? This is a particular problem for people with kids & all the gear they like to take with them, Remember too that the wife loves lots of kit & have a habit of loading in like Noah's ark 2x2 lol. Double check that the tow hitch stabilizer is properly attached, the ALKO ones are very prone to wear & believe it or not lubrication! I hear you cry that the book says to avoid lubricant around the hitch but that’s just pure fantasy. If you view the hitch head from below you will be able to see that the locking mechanism needs a spot of oil from time to time. Keep oil well away from the ferodo part of the hitch & all will be well. The clue to this part not functioning properly is when you hitch up, does the hitch click into place with a resounding click or does it make no noise? If you hear no noise than you are certainly not safe to tow! Don’t say that you haven't been warned. Now put towing mirrors on both sides of the car & adjust them properly. Check that you have not left the motor mover rollers onto the wheels (a common mistake) & that the jockey wheel is fully wound up & tightened. Now with the help of your glamorous assistant
