Engine system fault at altitude

Hi
Just back from my regular run to French Alps above Bourg St Maurice.
I have a regular fault that only occurs at altitude.
The engine goes into limp home mode and shows engine system fault on dash display.
Never does it in the UK or on the journey down or back.
First time was at 1500 metres altitude and a stop and restart always clears it
This time was at 800 metres but I was towing a 2 tonne trailer at the time.
Seems to happen most at light throttle openings, but has occurred off road at full throttle in low box with gravel setting and HDC on a very steep gravel track resulting in a full stop, shut down restart and reverse back down with HDC in full use.. with wife screaming in the jump seat...
EEK!!!

Any ideas

Thanks Stan
I did not realise that Martin had put up a post for this. I am Martin's dad, but you know what children are like tell you nothing!

Martin told us he was 85 years old, you don't sound old enough to be his dad Whistle

Sounds like you just need to fit a louder radio to drown her out. Much simpler than trying to fix the FF...

My first thoughts would be that as you go higher, the air becomes thinner and something is not reacting to that properly. So MAF or blocked air cleaner. MAF would be my first thought though.

Unfortunately I don't have access to the EM schematics of the TDV8. As in the other post, I would suspect the MAP sensor (MAF only measure flow and temperature) as it measures pressure (the only variable that seems to cause the issue). However I am not sure the TDV8 has a MAP sensor (like the S/C), I checked the TD6 and it does not have a MAP sensor.

I would suggest to talk to a big dealer or Nick of LR on the forum here. There may be a "known" issue with this within LR that didn't trickle down to all the dealers or didn't make it to a TSB.

When I run into a problem, I check with my dealer in Holland if they have seen the issue before, to get a feel for whether I am looking in the right direction Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

I believe that the TDV8 does have a MAP sensor, there was some chatter about cleaning the MAP sensors on the TDV6 led initially by the boys on Disco3.

http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic21918.html

When I opened mine up (TDV6 RRS) it was covered in crud so definitely not helping matters. It appears from other posters on the thread that the TDV8 has 2 sensors Thumbs Up

We've cleaned the TMAP sensor (there are a pair directly under the engine cover), so just off on a quick trip to the Alps for testing.......
