Well, a 25 win on the bay of fleas got me a Sonichi S-1000-DAB (Halfrauds own brand). Mounted (using velcro at the moment) in the middle console and I think it looks OK.
Dab by Burbage Photography, on Flickr I've connected it into the main radio just using its clever FM transmitter - it's not worth messing around with wiring as FM will carry far better sound than you will get from DAB with it's low bit rates, so no quality improvement will be made wiring it direct. Also, that means that the main radio will nip off for traffic flashes as they occur - something else that is in the DAB spec but not implemented in the UK. The FM transmitter in it, searches for a clear freq and away it goes, but it keep scanning, so that if you drive somewhere where that channel is used, it uses the AF feature of FM to find another clear frequency and tunes your car radio to that one. Clever eh? Seems to work quite well - comes with a natty little Mag Mount antenna for the roof of the car, but I've just popped it on the back shelf, next to the window, between the back seat and the bar that contains the roll-up dog/parcel guard thingy - actually inside the car. Works fine - and picks up LBC outside my house - from the West Midlands Multiplex - which is better than my home DAB does with a dipole on the roof of the house. Might be useful to some here - it also has a line level input - could be used to play from MP3 players in the car if you've not got a Parrot or Bluetooth sorted. |
