Summer Tires On My New 2012 HSE LUX!?

Greetings,

I'm new to this forum, prior to that, I have spent quite some time on the RRSPORT.CO.UK forum. We have a 2006 RRS and have loved every moment of that experience.

With that said, we just purchased a 2012 Range Rover LUX and it too is proving to be pretty damn special. However, the FFRR came equipped with Michelin Latitude Diamaris tires. These tires are rated as "summer sport" which is a problem here in the Nevada Sierra snow.

I cannot believe that the vehicle did not at least come with an "All Season" tire!? I have a call into Land Rover's customer service, they apologized for the inconvenience and stated they will get back to me.

I am curious if I am one of few that received their RR with summer tires, or is this standard issue?

Thanks in advance...

They are a standard fitment across the world... To be honest, your the first ive heard raise this issue which may mean its just an issue with a very small amount of owners...

I would have thought you would have the option of tyres when ordering new though

There are several 'standard' tyres fitted of which the Michelin is one, they also fir Pirelli Scorpion & Continental Cross Contact - I always thought it was somewhat luck ot the draw which ones you got.

There isn't a dedicated winter tyre as standard and I think the 'all season' tyre type is fairly new.

I run Michelins for 3 months a year and Vredestein Wintracs fr the winter.

I have had 7 LR's over the last 12 years Bow down

All came with m+s tyres except the RRS Evil or Very Mad

The first 2 winters I fitted 19" m+s tyres for winter and used the 20" crapinentals for summer - the 19" gave the best ride but the 20" look best Embarassed

I now have scorpion zero 20" m+s and they have improved the ride too so sold the 19" Bow down

Lr apparently now fit the scorpions they should of fitted in the first place Rolling Eyes Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

The Michelin Diamaris have an M&S tread pattern too.

Rather confusingly, that doesn't make them a 'winter tyre'

Winter tyres are made from rubber that has a much higher silica content, so they stay more flexible at lower temperatures. They also have lots of little cuts (sipes) in the tread to provide more edges to increase grip.

They have a little snowflake symbol on them to identify them as winter tyres.

They usually have an M&S tread pattern too.

Ignorance requires assistance, I am sure I know, but what is "M&S" on the tyres?

I am sure it's not a clothing and food store, nor that stuff Rihanna sings about (oh, that's S&M Wink ) .

United Kingdom 2016 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Santorini Black

I Have Michelin Lattitude Diamaris tyres on mine. They are marked up as M+S, making them an all season tyre. However the Michelin Site lists them as a summer tyre on both the UK and US site.

Confused........

they have a fairly road biased tread pattern, with no apparent snow cuts.

I also have a set of 19" good year wranglers, also marked M+S, which are denoted as an all season tyre by the manufacturer, they do have a road biased tread pattern also, however they have a lot of the fine cuts to the tread which hold onto the snow in winter as found on pure winter tyres, the theory being that its the snow trapped in the treads which gives the tyre the grip.

So 2 different tyres both rated as M+S on the sidewalls but only the good year rated as all season by the Mfr.

Clear as mud. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Sipes cut into winter tyres for grip on ice and smoothed surfaces should not be confused with patterns for mud & snow. They serve different purposes and work on different physics models. M&S tyres will work on fresh / crunchy snow, but when it's compacted or ice they will be as useful as standard summer tyres. Also with the range it's not the getting moving you need winter tyres for, it'll be the stopping 3 tons of car on a low friction surface.
