Is V-Power Diesel worth it for a TDV8?

I acquired a 2007 3.6 TDV8 Vogue this morning. Has anyone noticed any benefit from using V-Power diesel in theirs?

I'd rather put the regular stuff in if not. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster

I tried one tankful, no noticeable difference in my consumption. Might possibly have been slightly smoother,but that's not definitive. Extra 8 quid a tank Graham

Unlikely to make much performance difference as the engined is tuned to the 95 Octane but it will make a difference to the MPG long term and should improve long term wear and keep the injectors clean due to the additives.

This is diesel - cetane not octane (and not 95!). A higher cetane number means shorter ignition delay and (in theory) more complete combustion of the fuel leading to increased power, economy and smoother running.

Presumably most "premium" diesel also has some blend of additives in it to clean injectors etc. Can't say I've noticed any obvious difference in performance or economy on the odd occasion I've put it in.

In the past I've used an additive, which is designed to clean injectors and boost the cetane rating of the diesel.
I just put it in the tank as I've pulled up at the pump before a fill-up, ensuring a good mixture.
No noticeable difference in MPG or performance but I did feel like I was pro-actively doing something towards maintenance.
Maybe placebo, who knows. I haven't put any in the FF yet but will be giving it a try at some point.
Can't remember the brand, but it is a well known one. Works out about the same in cost as buying the premium fuel at the pump, but generally only bother once every 4-5 tanks.

I think if you use a "premium" fuel or additive, it will take a while to see the effect. First of all the cleaning of the fuel system and sometimes even cylinders/exhaust takes a while. I would expect it to show a difference after a few tanks (say 3 to 4) of continuous running on premium fuel, depending on the age of the car. It takes a bit of time to clean the fuel system and engine.

Whether it is placebo effect or not, my feeling is, if you use premium fuel or engine oil etc. you extend the life ot the components. So it makes sense if you plan to drive the car for a long time. If you trade them in every few years or don't do a lot of miles, the benefits will be limited anyway. I feel good maintenance is another factor in the equation as well, regular good maintenance can make a big difference in the "longevity" of a car as well as fuel consumption and smooth running. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

I've decided to run it on V-Power for the first few tanks to flush the system through and then revert to the regular stuff.

I averaged 29 mpg on the first tank (actual - indicated said 31.6!!) which gives 600+ miles range and I'd be surprised to see much improvement over that, although it would be nice to see 30 just for psychological purposes. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster

They do vary a bit then, mine hovers around 27mpg, and I do mostly steady motorway driving. Happy enough with that as thats what I was getting before from the Touareg but 30mpg would be brilliant... how in God's name do you get it to do that!? Bow down Lloyd Barnes
