United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Stornoway Grey
Number of owners and value

Hi
I am searching for my first FF and have been busy viewing a few today, but I have a question.
Assuming all things being equal, let's say 2 almost identical 2007 TDV8 Vogues, in Stornoway, both in excellent condition, both full service history, both 70k miles plus or minus 2k.
Question is, one is one owner, the other is 4 owners. Should there be a difference in value, if so, how much difference should there be? Or, is the main difference only in the desirability of the one owner car from a future resale point of view?
I would appreciate your views.
Thanks
David

This is a difficult one and an easy one - if that makes sense.

Simple fact is the less owners a car has the more desirable it is when it comes to resale - the reasons us we have a perception that if the 1st/2nd owner has kept the car for a while they must have really loved the car, wanted to keep it and look after it.

However there is another side to that story - maybe the owner diddnt really car what the car was, done basic work to it to keep it going and had so much money they diddnt care if it blew up and they had to buy another one if they needed to.

I think it does affect price and should cetainly be used as a bargaining chip by you if you are buying - should say easy 500 quid off tbh.

That is a great point, thanks. I know that the current owner cossets it and has it valeted professionally every month, but he only keeps a car for about 6/8 months before he gets bored and moves on.
I would still appreciate any other opinions.
Thanks

"Many" owners is a subjective thing, how much does it bother you that four people already owned it? It will all come down to condition in the end. Regardless, because we are human, the one with more owners should be cheaper, and you will be passing that view on at the other end when you come to sell!

If you have two to compare with different numbers of owners, which one do you like the best? Then - which one is the best car of the two.

Go to the wiki and read the buyers guides, follow them and check everything on the car. Check all the history and servicing.

Then decide. .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

I'de rather have one with a few owners...

A, it will get professionally cleaned before each sale...
B, one owner may put up and shut up with some things that others won't, meaning the car will have a varied history (one owner cars can be bad as well as good)

Basically, if you have a different opinion as to how a car should be maintained from the present "one owner" then you'll never be happy with a one owner car...

Just a different point of view for you...

I follow what Craig is saying, but I would imagine anyone investing that amount of money in a FFRR from new tends to look after it and wants it to be right.

Appreciate there are exceptions to the rule.........

That said, my 2003 car was 1 owner when I got it last November, and the front diff recall had not been done. A bit of digging I found the owner was in hospital for a 7 month period around the time of the recall being started, so prob got missed that way....... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

All I'm saying is maybe a first owner won't care so much about the long term wear and tear etc as to a car that moves down the food chain etc etc... If you change your FF every year or two from new "then it is what it is" is often the attitude...

Thats true.

Suppose car age has to come into the equation as well then, as the first owner on mine kept it nearly 9 years, so probably did think about long term wear, whereas a 3 year old car with 2 or 3 owners, they might not have done..........

No matter what you buy, you are always going to have to spend something to get it how you like it. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Thanks all for the replies, interesting topic and views.

I am on the verge of deciding to get the 4 owner car, the previous owner bought from Lookers Park Royal and I have seen the subsequent service records - I feel reassured.

I need to sleep on it tonight and I will decide in the morning if I still feel ok about it, if the car is still available.

Thanks

David, if it was me I would buy the one I liked the most if they both have the history & paperwork go with the one that ticks your boxes,

I am sure it will work out & which ever you buy you will really enjoy Thumbs Up Mutt
