Parts Direct has a reman starter for ~350. But surprising that nobody lists the V8 starter new. The X5 starter is listed on ebay new for 160. Can't imagine it is any different....

I seem to be lucky with mine, very dry boot and side wells - thankfully FFRR Vogue 2003 4.4V8 - Epsom Green & Ivory
