Views on what's wrong gratefully received. 05 (06MY) Vogue SE. I have an intermittent fault in that the main beam flashes uncontrollably and uncommanded whether the lights are on or off! More often than not main beam or flash doesn't work. The headlights are adaptive bi-xenons. If it's relevant the 'adaptive' has not worked since I've had the car (they don't appear to self calibrate and the cornering lights don't function). It's been in to the dealer who changed the Lighting Control Module (passenger footwell area) which seemed to work initially but the problem soon returned. They had no idea why the cornering lights didn't work or the headlights didn't self calibrate.

Has anyone had experience of this and know of the source of the problem and solution?

Firstly I take it you have a face lifted front...if so that’s why the adaptive lights dont work...the 05 did not have adaptive headlights so the dealer that replaced the LCM should have known this...
when you say they flash all the time are you talking the inner lights, high beam, do you know if the high beam are wired up in the xenon’s, this will be solenoid shutter and can be heard clonking when you flash your high beam,
This could be a problem with the LCM bulb monitoring, the unit self checks the bulbs constantly.

Thanks for the reply Daveo. It is indeed a face lifted front. The lights not being adaptive I'll be taking up with the dealer as they've charged me for investigation. When it's not working with lights on I don't get any main bean at all; main units and inners. When they flash on their own accord I'm pretty sure it's just inners and I don't hear the clonking.

True bi-xenon’s have a flap inside the xenon part of the headlamp main beam and when you flash your high beam the flap jumps up allowing your main beam pattern to go high and gives high beam, at the same time your high beam lamps on the inner part will work as well, these are only halogen, do you still have the halogen bulbs in there or have they been replaced with LED bulbs.
Has this just started or has it been like that since you bought the car.
With your head lights off do you get flashing from the head lamps and if so what flashes or does it only happen when your light are on... V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

The inners are hologen. Last couple of months they've been playing up, no problems for over a year previously. The random uncommanded flashing can occur with the headlights on or off. With lights off, when working, only the inners flash when commanded, with headlights on more often than not I can't get full beam, occasionally can - the xenons go to full beam at which point the inners come on too.

i would start at the relay, then on to the stalk, if driving at night do you see the blue hi-beam light on your dash flash or flicker V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

does it do it when your driving or will it do while you are stationary...how does the stalk fill, may be take the cowlin of and have a look, give the relay a few taps with a driver and see if it makes your lights flash,now i am not sure if there is a relay for the left and right side but if there is and both lights flash then i would say its unlikely its the relay. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Both. The stalk feels fine but worth a look. D'you know where the relay is?

Hi, worth looking at the stalk first but often change the LCM/BCM when this fault appears...

Although Daveo was quite right saying that the cornering lights were an issue on early facelifts, most didn't work but not 100% of them as i know of a couple that do work, but yes its very rare they do...
