charging should show 14.5'ish volts when on idle , if it does not them the alternator/belt might need replacing.. ... - .- -.

If the car isn't running 12.5-13V is battery voltage and is ok, tends to suggest the alternator was charging ok last time you used the car.

12.5-13v is with the engine running..

I assumed when you couldn't get the car started the voltages were with the engine off. Wrong again

The cost of the alternator seems ok, the labour seems a bit ott but the only alternatives are an independent or an auto electrician. |

Replacement alternator on my TDV8 cost me £750 in April. Mega Ouch.
