So is a D3/D4 better than a RR off road? I ask as those chaps all seem to have off road days but I don't see any for the RR.

Is it because we're all afraid to scratch the paintwork? Have to admit I'd love to off-road but would be worried about ruining my lovely Buckingham blue paintwork

i reckon with a decent set of mud terrain's the rr would hold its own, they all have the same terrain responce system after all. unless you have an older one like me.

there will be a lot of wee cheap suzukis that would put them to shame though, in our mud filled off road pay and play sites.

pulled a disco 3 out a few time with my toyota surf, it was lifted a wee bit with mud terrains and the disco only had all terrains,

as long as you enjoy yourself and you are senceible, take someone else for recovery, then go for it

a lot of us use our Range Rovers to off road, either work related, on shoots, farming or as landowners. Mine are used several times a week off road.

The difference with a lot of us is :-

1). most of us don't feel the need to bragg about it - unlike a "D" owner
2). its a normal everyday occurance
3). off road use to most of us has a purpose, not merely following a trail of vehicles through a green lane or at a pay and play site.

The biggest drawback for us in the RR stable is the tyres mainly, if you put Mud Tarrain tyres on the car is awesome.

mind you, over the years, I seen and been in Range Rover going off road in situations you'd shat yourself in where they've had road tyres.

Disco owners like to think they are adventurous because of the cars very marketing related nature, but mechanically there's not much in it.

If you dig hard enough, those Disco owners would give their right arm to have a RR.  Discovery 4 HSE

Back in the day, My regiment (the Royal Tank Regiment) invited Rover Germany and some 60 of their Guests to come and test the newly launched P38 (4.6 vogue) and some Discos on our Tank driving range. The only stipulation was that we would be allowed to drive them as well and have first dibs on them when they were sold as ex-demos. Well, after driving through water that was up to the bonnet in depth (the bow wave was flushing over the roof as we drove) and into muddy holes with exit walls some 15ft high and 60 degrees in pitch, I can only say that we were totally in awe of what they coped with. Even the discos were good but the RRs took everything in their stride. I can only think that the L322 is even better.

I have driven Disco 3 TDV6, RR Sport TDV8 and FFRR TDV8 around Land Rover Experiance courses and cannot identify any real difference in abilty. All have variable height suspension and terrain control. TDV8s have a bit more low down grunt for getting up steep slopes.

Standard tyres have an amazing abilty, LRE are only alllowed to use factory tyres to ensure owners understand the factory spec abilities which to most ordinary mortals is awesome. 2018 Range Rover Autobiography
