What about a 4.4 (jag engined AJV8 Same as in the s/c) petrol 2007(07) vogue facelift with terrain response, 6spd box etc? Way quicker and smoother than the older BMW 4.4 lump and only 1 sec slower 0 to 60 than the S/C...plus you'd get the newer interior which seems to wear much better as well..

I just happen to have one coming up for sale in the next few weeks to fund a new purchase..priced less than your 06 S/C budget too...pm if you want more details, or wait till I know i'm definitely in a position to sell and the for sale post will appear on here first.

2005 Range Rover Autobiography Td6 Zambezi Silver

Drove a Td6 and i felt awful and very underpowered but i like my sports cars normally, opted for a supercharged rr and it isnt half as bad on fuel as i was expecting, get around 20 mpg on a drive that i normally do which is around 12 miles each way. Sure if you do alot of local driving it will go down to 15 or so but on a run i think 20 mpg is very good for a 3 ton car with a big v8. So i say sc all the way Very Happy plus you get all the extras as standard that you normally wouldnt .

Probably price if his budget would be stretched getting a SC. By the way, get a SC and sod the running costs! By time you average it all out over the different types they are generally quite high anyway ....

I'm sure there are some getting pretty close to his upper budget limit and, depending on the amount of mileage, the initial outlay could be offset by the savings in fuel costs........... Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Thanks for the replies so far guys. I've spotted a nice 2003 4.4 v8 local that's only got 58k on the clock and at 10k seems cheap. I really fancy taking one out for a test drive soon too Smile

As for the tdv8's I don't really want to stretch into one of those as it limits my choice on colour and leather etc. At my budget.

Exactly! Why get a lower-spec tractor-engined car for more money than a higher-spec properly-propelled one where the running costs will take a couple of years to catch up?

Just for comparison:

20k miles a year in a SC @ 17mpg (assuming those miles are on the motorway, and you enjoy the SC):

139.99p a litre = £7487.15

20k miles a year in a TDV8 @ 25mpg (again assuming motorway miles):

143.99p a litre = £5236.73

Different = £2250.42 per year, factor in the purchase price being £8k cheaper for a SC and you'll notice that it's not such a saving to go diesel. Wink

I don't see an £8k difference between a TDV8 and an SC of equivalent spec and mileage Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Admittedly that was my calcs from around 6 months ago when I was looking for a FFRR. Seems like the gap is much less now, although with reduced mileage it'd still be a few years before it made a difference to have a diesel.

It was about £4/5k difference between the S/C and the equivalent TDV8 when I bought mine about 6 months ago. Seems the gap has lessened for some reason. I think it's more that the TDV8s have come down a bit. Not really sure why.

I did a similar calculation to TheAllSeeingPie when I bought mine. To be honest, once I'd driven both my decision was made anyway. Wink

I get about 17-18mpg.

I also drove the 4.4 and it was ok, but didn't excite me. The Jaguar 4.2 is sublime by comparison. Almost whisper quiet until you poke it, and then it becomes a very different beast.

I started her up from cold yesterday with my boss standing next to me as he was accompanying me out on some calls. He just stood there chuckling for a few seconds afterwards and then said "F*&k me....now THAT'S an engine..."

He's right. It is. Thumbs Up Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...

Exactly it just feels UBER smooth & quiet until you decide otherwise....

Completely different feeling to any of the excellent but less exciting Diesels.
