Been changing all the interior lights to led today and came unstuck with the interior roof / map lights.
The 5 smd 501 bulbs I have bought for everywhere else don't fit into the roof / map lights as the smd section is too large a dia to fit thro the hole in the light fitting. The bulbs fit into the holders ok.
Could someone who has converted to led point me in the direction of 501 led bulbs that will fit correctly.

That crossed my mind, but I was looking for the simple solution.
May have to resort to that.

did you buy a complete kit or just buy the amount of bulbs required as it is something on the list of mods to do

I just bought all the bulbs, two types fit everything bar the roof / map lights.
Just looking to get the right bulb for them.

I 'shaved' the collar off of the led with a Stanley knife  2003 Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black

the easy way is to put them in from the outside  V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

I can order the bulbs for the two fittings now I know what works.

501 bulbs
Tailgate lights x2
Roof interior light x2
Upper footwell x2
Door puddle lights x4
501 led


501 bulbs
Map reading lights x4

39mm festoon bulbs
Luggage area light x1
Glovebox light x1
Lower footwell lights x2
Festoon led bulbs


While I was at it I also bought these for the number plate lights x2
39mm canbus festoon


I didn't bother with the vanity lights, don't use them.


The above is for a 2004 car so other years may vary but it gives an idea of what is involved.
I did notice that my handbook indicates 501 bulbs in the lower footwell lights but mine are definitely 39mm festoon.

I hope this is of some use.

Er guys....you just have to pop out the roof fitting, unscrew TWO screws and fit the 'LEDS' .. then screw it back together. Simple. No need to butcher the poor thing!!!
