TDV8 uses teh ZF box IIRC.

Maybe factor in a megaflush of the box as well and changing the diff/transfer oils when you get it and a service.

They seem strong in the FF but the SS seems to suffer with them from things ive read online...

The fuel on an S/C goes through in staggering speed, I still subconsciously look for puddles of petrol underneath the car . An LPG version could be the solution, you still get that staggering acceleration and speed but at much lower cost  MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

You'll get a car that looks like a TDV8, but (if it's registered pre March 2006) the tax is over £200 less. BMW engine is bombproof and simple - TDV8 is complex. Mine was excellent on fuel returning upto 30mpg most of the time.

I was also considering either a TDV8 or Jag V8 petrol mainly because of the gearbox issues with the Td6, but the specialist where I take mine has told me of replacing those gearboxes also

For your budget, you'd get a good 'un, but you pays yer money etc . . .

Its like anything, if your budget can stretch it probably will do.

I'd rain back the budget by about £1k and then see what you can get privately and stick your own warranty on it. a TDV8 is still possible though over 100k a warranty wouldn't be

But the money saved to one side could be used for repairs and such like

an SC even on LPG will spend even more of its life being filled up..

I've used LPG, Optimax, petrol, diesel, SVO/WVO, and BioD and BioD by far is the easiest and most cost effective solution  FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

If you get a TD6 then have it remapped to make it nicer to drive Discovery 4 HSE

Go for a test drive first of a TD6 to see if you can live with it until you get it mapped though as they arent for everyone. specially if you want power!! Mines OK but im happy to admit its a slow beast compared to TDV8 and SDV6 engined vehicles. But it does its job and can still pull a fair old weight  FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I'm going to test a TD6 I think, I should be fine as I'm fully aware its a luxury barge and shouldn't yearn for power.

Out of interest, how can you tell whether the Td6 is the facelift model? I've seen a few that look like they have the new grill/side vents but the dates seem to vary?

- 05 / 55 / 06 / 56 on VRM
- Should have 06 in the VIN
- "Facelift" front ie smaller headlights and, yes, different "gills"

There are some earlier model cars advertised as "facelift" cars - with 05 VRM's - but they are the earlier style car with a limbo spec of electronics. Nothing wrong with them, but don't pay as much for one.
I fell foul of that travelling a long way for a misrepresented car. Also, some colours were introduced for the 06 VIN cars.

Personally, I'd only consider Vogue (or Vogue SE) spec as you get the fab sunroof and some other useful bits and bobs. Just because it's got the badge on the boot, don't believe it - check the spec !

If it's got a private VRM, check it's the cheaper tax - some aren't . . .

There's probably other stuff I've forgetten ?
