Lumpy smokey startup TDV8

As per the title. Occasionally on the first start of the day, I have a lumpy tickover and some smoke out the back.
Anybody suffered with this? Had similar on the x5 and it was a few defective glow Plugs.
Thoughts?

the first cheapest option would be to stick some injector cleaner in IAN, did that on my td6 and it 'seemed ' to run better.. ... - .- -.

Is the weather cold enough for glow plugs to kick in?

As i was told they kick in at all sorts of times, doesn't have to be -10. Otherwise it would be like cranking an old cement mixer, Oh those were the days Shocked
