Scotland 2005 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black
This is serious stuf!!!

I am sure most of us here have more than one car, maybe even one we modify, a classic we like to tinker with.

The Censored EU is looking to put an end to our fun with cars Sad

Any modification of any sort to any car will render the car illegal for road use.

Changed you brakes for bigger ones - car illegal

Changed your wheels for bigger/fatter ones - car illegal

Have a classic car? Changed it in anyway? - car illegal

Any change what so ever that causes the car design to deviate from the type approval, or since it came into service will make the car illegal.

This is NOT just a few minor changes to the MoT

cant see it working, if you have certain tyres that are no longer made and you have to put a different brand on that would be a change, or spark plugs or high octane fuel, it would be unworkable.
plus every patched up old car in spain, italy or france would be illegal overnight

2015 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Aruba

Having a quick look at the link and subsequent links, there is a lot of unsure points and questions, the issue isn't very clear.

The headline of not being able to fit any alternative part seems to countered by some comments which gave an example that any new / alternative parts should by type approved to the same standard of part that its replacing. ( for example e4 markings on things ) The wording also seems to imply that alternative parts should be of the same characteristic as the original.

Plus what is it that gives a car its type approval???

Is it every nut and bolt ( if so do they have to type approve every single version of a vehicle? ) Would an autobiography special vehicles interior need type approval

Or is it more generic where its along the lines of

L322 model Y with LR factory wheels rated at 1050kg load rating V8 or else ...

Plus, at the end of the day, if you wanted to get type approval for a heavily modified vehicle, you could SVA it as a one off ! V8 or else ...
