Hi lads newbie here,

I've asked the same question on the RRS forum, but just looking for the opinion on the other side of the coin now.

I'm Hoping that my CLS will be sold soon so it'll be time for my first RR. Been keeping my eyes peeled for a MY06 TDV6 RRS (hse) around the 80k mile mark , but I've seen a few early TDV8 (vogue) FFRR's around the 100k+ mile mark for the same sort of money.

I've driven an TDV6 RRS and thought it was quite nice. I've not driven a FF TDV8 (would be the earlier 3.6) but heard plenty of people on here raving about the engine itself. It is looking that a TDV8 RRS is a little bit out of budget unless I go for one over say 100k miles which I don't fancy doing but I am quite tempted.

What advice could you guys offer on the a early FFRR on high miles?

Any help or advice would be greatly appriciated.

Personally for the cars with the same engine and box i'd buy the FFRR over the RRS, different animals, RRS is sporty minded and the FFRR is relaxed so doesnt enthuse thrashing as much as the RRS does and thus i personally think they see a gentler life over all.

Full fat all day long.

Sport is a cheap attempt at filling a gap and always looks as if it has been purchased with the proceeds of crime.

The full fat on the other hand is a proper Range Rover.

Don't settle for anything less.

It's TDV8 Vogue SE or a lifetime of regret.

I was in a similar position as I was looking at a RRS first before the FFRR.

For me, the FFRR is the right choice. Yes, the RRS is a more “sportier” drive but it is not really a sports car either.
Anyone who thinks a RRS is a sports car has obviously never had the pleasure of driving a proper sports car.

In my view, the RRS is a good compromise between sportier drive and luxury, compared to the FFRR.
But that is the issue for me, it is a compromise.

The FFRR on the other hand has much more poise and presence than most other cars. It is a proper luxury car with all the amenities anyone could ever want. It does not pretend to be anything else.

Knowing what I do now as an owner of a FFRR, I would have regrets if I would have bought the RRS instead of the FFRR.

I had a 2006 MY FF until earlier this year . . . .

A colleague asked about the FF's, but he set his heart on a Sport. I tried to put him off on ride quality alone, but he went ahead with the Sport. He bought a very nice 3 litre Sport with sensible sized wheels, which in spite of this . . . he hates due to the ride quality.

For me, it's all about the ride qulaity - you must try both on a mixture of differing roads.

Also, accomodation is far better in the FF - very claustrophobic in the Sport.



P.S. Ref the top line - worst thing I ever did - now looking at buying another  Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

No matter what I drive It tends to look like its been funded by crime, thanks to me only being 28 and having a shaved head (read balding )

I've enjoyed the luxury of the CLS but I also like the fact I can press on and make progress should I need to give it some poke. I think that's why I consider the RRS, I drove one and was rather surprised that it would corner without feeling like it is on its door handles.

What I like about the FFRR is the fact it's a FFRR, I recently had a ride in a 5.0 Supercharged and was amazed, but the TDV8 is a much more sensible option. I think I could do with a test drive of one, I'd really like one with the 2010/11/12 face lift, I just wish my budget was bigger

Yes I seen that earlier, it looks great but I'm not won over with the blue leather, got a feeling the wheels look a little like replicas also. Worst part about it though is that it's 4 hours away But the looks alone are winning me over.

Don't buy a black or white one and the drug dealer thing won't be an issue in an ff. the ff really feels better off the line and dare I say it if equipped with the same wheel and tyre combo as an SS would likely be quicker due to the weight and chassis/body differences

In all honesty the drug dealer comments etc don't really bother me, as long as I am happy with the car that is the main thing, the majority of my cars in the past have been black, white or grey.

What are the running costs like of an early TDV8? Is there any particular services due around that mileage, and what tax band do they fall into?

I'm 30 and drive a Black Supercharged with factory tints. Never been pulled in 8000 miles, even when I had it lowered by 25mm and the stereo on full blast. You'd be amazed how fast they go round corners when lowered, but I feared for my license so jacked it back up so the ESP kicks in before I do something stupid

I was so surprised and impressed by the supercharged, it went fast for a car let alone for a big heavy 4x4, I couldn't live with the single figure mpg though

At the moment road tax is £460, without going out to double check. I am sure that's what it was last time.

Servicing is about £500 for a standard routine annual service.

Although as always, shop around and make them beg.
