True story.

My father was a truck driver back in the late 50s early 60s and was away from home for a couple of weeks at a time.

It was the middle of winter and freezing cold, he was parked up in a layby and sound asleep (no sleeper cab). At around midnight there was a bang on the cab door and father open it to see the police standing there. "We passed at the start of our shift and saw you parked up here and we thought we best check to see you are ok as it's freezing" one cop said, "Not the first time we've had to pull a frozen body out of a truck" Just as he finished speaking the other cop piped up "Where the heck is all the heat from your cab coming from?" whilst sticking his head inside for a better view. Well it wasn't difficult to see an electric fire sitting in the cab and a wire leading outside and into the phone booth, the bulb had been removed from the booth and the electric fire plugged in. The two cops just started laughing their heads off and gave him a warning not to set fire to the truck and left.

When I was a kid I always wondered why the electric fire had a bulb like fitting on the wire...
