2003 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 V8 Java Black

It's got the LR logo so I was guessing it's the oem one.

If they mess up fitting it I'll be having it redone !!

Surely they can't balls it up so bad...... Can they? TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

Not sure whether you can still do this, but on my last car (BMW) the front screen needed replacing and I insisted on a BMW screen. Insurance hesitated at first, but then authorised the dealer to fit one instead of autoglass. That was logo'd and matched the rest of the glass perfectly. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Dan & Mac,

I had some chips repaired on my last RR, the Technician and I got talking about repairs vs replacements. He agreed that a replacement screen no matter how well it is fitted will NEVER be as good as one done at the factory during the build of the car.

This means that that it can leak water into the cabin, have wind noises from bad/poor seals and potentially flex and crack as the body has contourted over it's life of the car and therefore the new screen never really fits the now older car.

Unless the entire heated screen is duff, I would look at the cost/benefit ratio of missing a couple of inches of heating on the passenger side.

Once the car is heated up and you have the heater on inside the remainder will clear quickly, especially on the MAX or Prog setting.

you have to ask yourself, is it worth the risk is all I am saying. For me, I'd live with it.

It's a bit like taking your car to the Dealer to get something fixed. You can almost guarantee that when it comes back they have done something to it that then requires more attention. Every time.... Censored Discovery 4 HSE

I do completely agree with that, as the side trims on mine are whistling a bit. But for me I wanted a new screen, as with 110,000 miles the screen was so pitted in low sun it was actually difficult to see out of. I wonder if the dealers break things on purpose, like my steering wheel when it was in for the diff recall!

Dan, I think they are just careless grease monkeys who don't give a Sh*t whether they are working on a brand new FFRR SC or a Kia Sedona. There's no passion for the job or the marque, it's just a job and hence they do stuff badly. The LR dealers have a high turnover of staff these days which didn't used to be the case, LR attracted loyal dedicated staff. These days the so called Technicians train on the job and drift from one manufacturer to another.

That's why the dealer in Solihull trashed all 4 of my alloys trying to fit some tyres. No skill, no training, just total ineptitude and carelessness.

Totally Crap from a customer service point of view. We're the ones who suffer. Discovery 4 HSE

The cars are made to a fine tolerance - in a jig. You are talking many thou of an inch difference between cars. Screens, on the other hand do differ more radically due to the way they are made - no two are the same.

Mate the two up, and even when in build the manufacturer has to jiggle them to fit.

A car, especially a monocoque will flex, but not change shape - unless it has been involved in an accident.

If the fitter is any good, then there is no reason why he cannot fit the screen as well as the factory did. Unfortunately, it's all timed nowadays, so unlikely someone will take the time and care to fit the screen correctly.

You also have to take into account the trims having taken the shape of the original screen. For best fit, they should all be replaced at the same time.

Adam, +1.

No passion/knowledge any more.. There was a time when even the young apprentice types treated the vehicles with a degree of reverence and made sure not to smear greasy paw prints all over them etc etc.

I'm sure SOMEWHERE there are still real mechanics but they seem lost in a sea of f Censored ng brainless cretins with no respect/pride in their work.

Surely we could work up a class action suit over their use of the of the word 'technician'

(from dictionary.reference.com):

*
A technician is someone whose job involves skilled practical work with scientific equipment, for example in a laboratory.
o
...a laboratory technician.
*
A technician is someone who is very good at the detailed technical aspects of an activity.
o
...a versatile, veteran player, a superb technician.

Thumbs Up

That's why I only use indies.

My Local LR Indy has a love of the machines.
Same Workshop guys for over ten years.
Cup of tea and a chat. Everytime they make you feel welcome.

Not cheap but worth it and way better value than the main dealer. 15MY SDV8 Vogue SE

Not quite- I called Autoglass today and they said that if I can square it with the Insurance company, they'll fit a genuine Land Rover logo'd screen, which they'll order and fit at my local dealers 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Correct; they are made by the same people, but do not have the logo if purchased by a non LR dealer - weird.

If you specify that you want one with a logo, they can arrange this for you.
