I have just bought my ffrr vogue. I will post pictures later in the week. I was out driving it and noticed the drivers dipped head light was not working. If I turn the lights off.It would come back on. It would start to flicker a few times and then go out. and I would get a message saying that my bulb had failed. It is a preface lift 05 model. I am getting a new diff on Monday for it. It was not changed in the recall. When I get it back I will post some pictures up.

On another note how do I find out if the diff has been changed on my 54 plate? 15MY SDV8 Vogue SE

Something to do with the coupling I think?

Old one has splines, new one has a U/J?

Probably the ballast if the bulb is still working. If you change the bulbs, you might want to change them both as Xenon lights change colour temperature with age (they become more blue). The newer bulb will look much whiter by comparison.

I'd go for a replacement ballast, or at leat look at the connections first. Be careful though, Xenon ballasts operate at thousands of volts to ignite the gas in the bulb! Be warned.

hi I had this on my 05 so i swapped the bulb from passenger to driver side and found my bulb was breaking down so replaced both bulbs and now perfect rgds simon

It's kelvins you mean, it's basically the colour temperature. 4300k is usually OE spec, I have 6000k in my Vivaro work van, they're alright but I prefer 4300k As far as I know, they are DS2 HID bulbs, so any aftermarket ones should work and will probably be cheaper than dealer prices.

Also, if you're poking about near the headlights, I'd disconnect the battery, the ballast can fire up to 25kv to the bulb which I dare say would give you a bit of a tingle 2006 Mercedes CLS

Thanks for that. Can I fit bigger voltage bulbs? 4300 is standard. I was looking at 6000watts I think it is watts or volts? Do I have to disconnect the battery first? Or just make sure the light switch is OFF.

Hi again i have looked into getting brighter bulbs and found that the dif between 4300k and even 8000k is the colour and not how bright they make the road seem i was advised 4300k are the brightest bulbs

From what I know, (and please oh learned friends correct me if I'm off the mark)

The 'K' unit of colour temp is not necessarily to do with the brightness, it's Kelvin as in the absolute unit of temperature so it relates to the temperature you would heat a non specific substance to in order to achieve the colour (in the way that metal when heated gets red hot and eventually white hot)... In the same way that wavelengths increase throughout the visible spectrum from infra red up through ultra violet etc... hence the increase in 'blue tint' as colour temp increases.

As the colour temp increases further the light gets more and more blue/purplish until around 12000K they are basically for show cars only and have fairly rubbish light penetration (again back to increasing lambda (wavelength) values suffering more from free space loss...

Also if you have very purplish looking HID lights you look like you should be driving a corsa with a 4" exhaust...

IMVHO, 4500K-6000K is where it's at for overall usage, but just my £0.02
